Kathryn transforms images of nature and architecture into mandalas using a computer and an eight-slice geometric pattern.
She says
“I find the resultant pattern beautiful and evocative, and somehow, no matter what theme I am exploring – nature, architecture, or just pure colour — the resulting mandala seems to confirm for me that everything is connected and that
large or small, everything contains an entire universe.”
Mandalas are special, and have been used by most religious traditions to express spiritual themes. In eastern traditions, where the word mandala originates, they are used as meditation aids which symbolize the universe. You can learn more about mandalas here at Wikipedia
The images she uses are usually her own photography, but she has also used photos provided by others, Google Earth satellite images and even a scan of a Tarot card.
